You may not believe that a beard can change your life, but I don’t know. I’ve had a few cut and colors in my day that have made me feel like a whole new person, so why should an awesome, persona-defining beard be any different?
If you’re still feeling skeptical, let me introduce you to Gwilym Pugh. He started off as a 21-year-old insurance salesman, but working from home and various injuries made him gain weight (a whopping 280 pounds).
“I was working 12 hours a day, plagued with injuries which meant I couldn’t train at all. I decided I needed to get my life in order and wanted to get healthy again.”
Everything changed the day his barber encouraged him to grow a beard.
The suggestion was made due to the fact that Gwilym and his friends had recently started a folk band, and the barber thought that the beard would help him look more the part.
Gwilym went one step farther in embracing his new lifestyle and also quit his desk job at the same time.
“It was the best thing for my health as I stopped sitting for nine to ten hours a day.”
He lost 90 pounds over 5 years, grew the beard, and created an Instagram account that eventually landed him a modeling job.
He’s worked on campaigns with Vans, Bud Light, Diesel, and other recognizable names, and is even an ambassador for David Beckham’s male grooming brand, House 99!
What a difference a beard can make, right?
