Teen Gives Birth During Kickboxing Match
Dutch junior Pamela Vugts, 17, was rushed to hospital last Monday when she started bleeding the day after being kicked in the stomach during a kickbox gala in Den Bosch.
Doctors told her she was seven months pregnant and later that day she gave birth to a healthy baby girl by Caesarian.
Neither Pamela nor her parents knew she was pregnant although the scales showed she was more than 17lbs overweight before her fight.
‘She has always been a bit heavy,’ said her father, Cor. ‘But because she was having her monthly periods we thought she had just put on weight over the holidays.’
Pamela, who lives with her parents, is now looking after her daughter at home.
According to reports her stomach looked large and her belly button was sticking out in the ring.
Although rare it is not unheard of for women to not know they are pregnant.
Stories abound of women who, thinking they have constipation, give birth into a toilet.
On June 1 Santa Barbara Prison Inmate Leticia Cisneros, 35, gave birth in her cell toilet thinking she had cramps.
