In case you’re old, out of the loop, or you spend more time in the real world than you do online (I’m guilty of at least two of those three things), you may not have heard of the latest Instagram trend: ASMR videos.
ASMR stands for autonomous sensory meridian response, which is a term used to describe that tingling sensation that moves from your scalp down the back of your neck.
TL;DR: They’re videos that give you a feeling of low-grade euphoria and a tingling scalp.
Want to break in to the market of “oddly satisfying” videos? You’ll need one of three shticks: making slime, slicing soap, or crushing floral foam.
Here’s what you’ll need to make it work:
Cheap bar soap: You’re going to be slicing it up until you can slice no more, so look for colorful (opaque and translucent), inexpensive bars.
Floral foam: Use the lightweight blocks typically used in flower arrangements and saturate them with water. It turns into a green foam that is oddly delightful to crush.
Extra: You’ll want a tripod for your smartphone so that your viewers can focus on your actions, not on the shaking video.
Go forth and create! Watch a few of your own videos first, but don’t say we didn’t warn you – a “few” will turn into a few hundred before you know it!
