Now this is a great story that everyone should read. Girl Scout Troop 6000 based in New York City is made up of a group of truly remarkable young girls. The troop is the first in Girl Scouts history to be made up entirely of homeless youngsters.
In April 2018, the troop set a goal: they wanted to sell 6,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies. In less than a week, the girls had already sold a whopping 32,500 boxes of cookies.
Some folks even waited in line for over an hour to buy the sweet treats from the young ladies. Other people just donated money directly to the troop, and they raised over $15,000. Troop 6000 formed in 2016 as a collaboration between the Girl Scouts, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, and the city’s Department of Homeless Services. Roughly 40% of New York City’s homeless population are children, and Troop 6000 made up of 300 of those kids who live in shelters. Great job, ladies!
